Terms and conditions

Last updated: 3 November 2026

Draft: these terms need review by a UK solicitor before launch.

1. About us

These terms apply to the services provided by Forge Global Ltd (company number 06759854; registered office 18 Phipp St, London, England, EC2A 4NU), trading as Car Owners Check. By submitting a request you accept them.

2. Our service

We trace the registered keeper of a UK vehicle from its registration number where there is a lawful purpose. A request form is not a contract. A contract is formed only when we accept your request and confirm the fee in writing.

3. Lawful use

You must meet our acceptable use and lawful purpose policy. We screen every request and may decline or stop it at any time. We decline personal tracing requests. You confirm that the information you give is true and that you will use any result only for the purpose you gave.

4. Fees and payment

Fees range from £50 to £200 per trace, inclusive of VAT. All fees stated on this website include VAT at the current rate. We ask for payment after the request has been accepted and the fee confirmed, and before the work starts. You will not be charged for a request that we decline. If we carry out an accepted trace and cannot identify the registered keeper, or cannot support the result, you pay nothing and any payment is refunded. See pricing.

5. Results

We do not guarantee that a trace will identify a keeper. Results depend on the vehicle and the information available. The registered keeper is not always the owner, and is not necessarily the person who was driving. We will tell you if we cannot support a result.

6. Timing

We aim to contact you within 24 hours of receiving a request. That reply tells you whether we can proceed, need more information, or cannot act. It is not the result of a trace.

7. Personal data

We process personal data as described in our privacy notice.

8. Liability

We are not liable for loss caused by your misuse of information we release, or for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.

9. Complaints

Email info@carownerscheck.co.uk and we will review the matter and reply in writing.

10. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and its courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
