About Car Owners Check
Car Owners Check is a vehicle-owner tracing service operated by Forge Global Ltd. We are a team of private investigators. We treat every keeper's details as confidential. We were set up to deal with a specific, practical problem: people who have been harmed by a vehicle, or who have a legal claim connected with one, often cannot move forward until they know who the registered keeper is.
Our approach
We treat a registered keeper's details as personal data that belongs to someone else. That shapes how we work.
- We ask why you need the information before we ask anything else.
- We read every request and apply written criteria.
- We decline requests without a lawful basis, including requests that appear to be personal.
- We release results only to verified requesters, in writing, with conditions on use.
- We keep a record of each decision so that it can be reviewed.
A service of this kind carries a real risk of misuse, including stalking and harassment. We would rather decline a request than release information that could put someone at risk.
Who we act for
- individuals and businesses who have suffered damage from a vehicle;
- landowners, landlords and managing agents dealing with abandoned vehicles;
- solicitors and insurers who need a keeper to be identified for a claim, including instructions from a solicitor on behalf of a client;
- creditors and their representatives with a judgment or a written agreement in default.
The team
Car Owners Check is run by a team of private investigators at Forge Global Ltd. We do not publish individual names on this site.
Regulation and registration
Private investigation in the United Kingdom is not subject to a statutory licensing regime. The Government has not brought into force the licensing provisions that Parliament passed in 2001, so we do not claim a licence that does not exist. We handle personal data under the UK GDPR, we are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and we hold ourselves to the standards in our acceptable use and lawful purpose policy and to data protection law.
